www.penlakes.com   tee times: 1-905-892-8844

Peninsula Lakes Golf Club, referred to as Pen Lakes by locals, is one of the most popular golf courses on the Niagara Peninsula, and for good reason. This course, carved from the remains of an old sand and gravel quarry, is considered by many to be “The Jewel of Niagara.” With excellent play, gorgeous scenery, and design by legendary Canadian architect, Rene Muylaert, it’s no wonder that Peninsula Lakes Golf Club has been recognized by Golf Digest as a four-and-a-half-star facility. It was also ranked No. 1 by the 2021 Golfers Choice in Best Value Golf Courses in Canada, out of 697 rated courses. Lastly, it was chosen as the 2023 Best Hidden Gems in Canada by Golfers Choice. This course is definitely an editor’s top pick!

Whirlpool Golf Club  3351 Niagara Parkway Niagara Falls, Canada

www.niagaraparksgolf.com   tee times: 1-866-465-3642

A fantastic Golf Course maintained by Niagara Parks. You won’t find a better course in Ontario at these prices. The nearby tourism helicopter service can test your nerves while hitting that tee shot too. Best for early morning tee-off. The course has quite a bit of rolling terrain so a cart is a necessity and it also makes for a lot of blind shots if you aren’t familiar with the course. Whirlpool is a favorite amongst locals. In case you were not aware of it the course is located right next to the giant whirlpool on the Niagara River.

Grand Niagara Resort  8547 Grassy Brook Road  Port Robinson Canada

www.grandniagararesort.com  tee times: 1-866-607-4653

The most beautiful course in a rural setting. Undoubtedly one of the best courses in Southern Ontario. If you slice a lot bring plenty of balls. They’re impossible to find in the heather grass. The club house is minimal but if you’re looking to play an awesome round this is the course for you. The Resort part of the name has yet to be built making for a very quiet and tranquil setting. A very challenging course for an amateur yet it’s the best course on the Canadian side of Niagara. Bring your mosquito repellent! To quote designer Reese Jones “We have built a golf course at the Grand Niagara Club that could host a major championship.”

Thundering Waters  6000 Marineland Parkway, Niagara Falls, Canada

www.thunderingwaters.com   tee times: 1 (877) 833-3259

Thundering Waters is probably the toughest course listed here and it’s also closest to the falls. You better be able to hit them straight because there are a lot of sand traps and thick woods here. The greens play like a rock and the ball rolls off easily. I hope you like your GPS, because that’s where you’ll get all of the course info. They do offer cart rentals, and the GPS on these things is pretty snazzy. It not only tells you how far you are from the pin, but also how far back the group in front of you is. It seems like there are few facilities available, since the clubhouse and pro shop are bare bones.

Legends on the Niagara  9651 Niagara Parkway, Niagara Falls, Canada

www.niagaraparksgolf.com   tee times: 1-866-465-3642

Legends on the Niagara is run by the Province’s Niagara Parks Commission. There are actually three courses here, Battlefield, Ushers Creek and the 9 hole Chippawa. They were the best maintained courses in Niagara Falls yet quality fluctuates year after year. Great scenery with excellent restaurant and bar facilities. Rate of play tends to be slow so bring a large dose of patience with you.

A semi-private 9 hole course in Niagara on the Lake. Set on the shores of beautiful Lake Ontario. A fun and not too challenging course which can be easily walked. Great scenery, great restaurant in a great little town 13 miles from the Falls

Hyde Park Golf  4343 Porter Road, Niagara Falls,  New York

www.niagarafallsusa.org   tel: 716 297-2067

A 36 hole municipally owned and maintained course. Two nine hole courses: south red and the south white. The red is for beginners and the white is in decent shape. The 18 hole course is called the North yellow. Ridiculously inexpensive for eighteen holes. The pace of play can be slow but it’s still a fun course to play.

Beaver Island Golf www.nysparks.com   tel: 716 773-4668

Take the Beaver Island exit off I-190 and follow the parkway to Beaver Island State Park.

This New York State Parks operated course is a lot of fun to play and is always in good shape. The various well placed water hazards can humble you quickly if your not careful. Probably the best bang for your buck in Western New York. The Canadian Geese that make this their home are nice to look at but watch your step and your shot.
